We became hoarders!

We became hoarders! - Lucille Quigley

Recently, my husband got a new job, which required us to relocate from Ontario to Quebec. We used to live in a three bedrooms bungalow in the suburbs of Mississauga.  Now we are in a two bedrooms condo, in Griffintown, close to the Lachine Canal.

Only my husband and I moved to Montreal. Our daughter decided to stay in Mississauga. All her friends were there, and she was happy with her new job. Therefore, she moved in with one of her friends.

Thus, we had to downsize considerably. There were so many things we had to get rid of. When we sold the house, we sold it with most of our furniture.

Until that day, I was never aware of the amount of things we collected throughout the years. We became hoarders without our knowledge. Beside the small appliances and the furniture left, there were also all the gardening tools, my husband's` tools, paintings, magazines, boxes of old clothes... you name it!

While we were going through our things, we realized some of them; we did not used in years.

It did not make sense to take it with us; it would not have fit into our condo. And we did not really need it, anyway. Therefore, we decided to organize garage sale.

We moved into the garage all the items we wanted to sell. The following morning it was a Saturday. We woke up early and arranged everything on the driveway and inside the garage. The previous night, my husband placed a garage sale board with our address on it, at the corner of the street.

In the morning, after breakfast, I brewed a pot of coffee, put it our mugs and took a seat outside, on the folding chairs, waiting for buyers. We had a lot of fun that day! It was a nice summer day, and a lot of people came to check our stuff. At the end of the day, I was happy to see, almost everything was gone. Everything was sold. The little that remained we donated to the church.

Some of the money obtained from the garage sale, I used it to buy whatever we were missing in our new nest, like new curtains, bathroom mats and a cute door mat.

Also, for the balcony, I purchased a nice rattan table set, a new barbecue and an awning montreal. After discovering we both had the tendency of becoming hoarders, I did not want an overcrowded living room. I try to keep it simple and cozy.
