This morning I was awaken by some incredibly loud noise coming from the next door apartment. The family leaving there had recently moved out. Apparently the new owner was not pleased with the way it looked and decided to do some renovations. It was a normal thing. So as I was thinking I should do some work within the apartment, but I always postponed it for one reason or another.
What I did not expect was to have a constructor working next door at 7 A.M. the following day after my neighbours moved. Imagine I was startled by hearing so loud noises coming from the wall where I have my bed. It sounded as if someone was trying to break down the entire building. For a second or two, I freaked out. I thought it was an earthquake and everything was about to collapse, since everything was shaking.
When I came back to my senses, I realized that all the noise was coming from the next door apartment. Someone was breaking down the plywood walls and whatever needed to be removed and replaced. Obviously the workers were in a hurry and they were trying to do everything very fast, with no consideration to the fact that it was only 7:01 A.M. Normally a day of work starts at 8:00 A.M., not earlier. These guys were unexpectedly punctual.
I grabbed my robe, put on my sleepers and walked towards the door. I needed to see with my own eyes what the heck was going on. When I opened the door, I saw a man climbing up the stairs, carrying two huge loads of construction materials. He looked at me, nodded his head and entered the next door apartment.
Because the door was wide open, I was able to have a look inside my old neighbour’s place. I was shocked to see it was filthy. There walls were not white, but yellow, with lots of stains and spider webs, the floor was entirely ruined. It really looked like a dumpster.
In all the years my neighbour lived here, I never stepped inside his place. I asked myself how could someone so nice as him, could live in such a dirty place? Then I asked myself what did I really know about him? Not much! Except for his name and the fact that he had worked for a company who does hybrid system Toronto for a few years, I knew nothing. People are not always what they seem to be.
